School Sustainability and Resilience Fund

In early 2023 we received 35 applications for our School Sustainability & Resilience Fund from schools, kura, kohanga, kindergartens, early childhood education centres and other education organisations across our rohe. This fund has been allocated by the community with over 700 votes received!

Like the previous year, there was such an overwhelming response of applications that we decided to increase the fund from $35,000 to $50,000. This means the public had $35,000 to spend, while our Youth Panel had another $15,000 to allocate.

Project updates

We have been fortunate enough to visit some of the successful applications of the 2023 SSR Fund and see what progress they have made on their projects.
  • BestStart Greerton - Our Whanau Garden

We are so happy with how the project has gone. We had lots of our community help out with the preparation of the site and our new raised edible gardens are nearly ready for our Tamariki to nurture and enjoy.

  • Waihi Beach Primary School - Seed Library

A fantastic project where the students have been involved right from the beginning at the design phase. Once designed, the cabinet for the seeds was made locally and the seeds were sorced to help kick start the library into action.

  • Trident High School - Taoroa Whakatupu a-wai

Emily has developed a very cool Hydroponics system for the horticulture garden. With the support of her teachers she was able to design and create a hydroponics system that is fit for purpose and of high quality.
