Youth Panel completes their voting

May 20, 2026

The 2026 School Sustainability and Resilience Fund (SSRF) has progressed through the second stage of its participatory budgeting process, with the Youth Panel now successfully completed.

The panel selected its preferred projects from a pool of ‘second chance’ applicants who were unsuccessful in the public voting round. Their choices have directly funded $38,817 worth of projects, placing real decision-making power in the hands of Bay of Plenty youth.

Who was on the panel?

A diverse Youth Panel of 16 members was selected, representing a broad cross-section of rangatahi from across the region. The group reflected a strong mix of ages, experiences and ethnic backgrounds, and achieved an even gender balance.

What does the Youth Panel involve?

Panel members took part in two online sessions, followed by a final voting day on 15 May 2026. During this process, they reviewed eligible projects and made funding decisions, ensuring youth perspectives directly shaped the outcomes.
